Japan’s AirX announces that Hyogo Prefecture and Kobe City would financially assist the consortium’s efforts to establish eVTOL services along with AirX, Mizushima Aero & Space Industry Cluster Study Group (MASC), and CTI Engineering.

According to AirX, “this project uses actual flying vehicles to undertake technical verification (safety operations, airport planning, design, and operation, environmental impact assessment), which is required for social implementation as well as serviceability verification connected to tourism. We want to commercialise the idea in Hyogo Prefecture and the Osaka Bay region based on these achievements.

Background

Flying cars are a new type of mobility that has the characteristics of electricity, autonomous flight, and vertical take-off and landing. They can alleviate congestion in urban areas, contribute to carbon neutrality by reducing CO2 emissions, and can be used on remote islands and mountainous areas. It is expected to contribute to solving social issues such as securing means of transportation in areas with insufficient transportation infrastructure. In Japan, the public and private sectors are working together to implement flying cars into society, with the 2025 Osaka-Kansai Expo as a milestone, led by the Public-Private Council for Air Mobility Revolution.

Aim of the project

This project utilizes actual flying cars to conduct technical verification (safety operations, airfield planning, design, and operation, environmental impact assessment) necessary for social implementation, as well as verification of serviceability related to tourism. Based on these results, Air X aim to commercialize the project in Hyogo Prefecture and the Osaka Bay area.

Business summary

This project will be carried out in accordance with the following objectives:

  1. Verification of safe navigation of flying cars
  2. Promising route setting and demonstration flight with an eye on tourism
  3. Verification of the design and operation of airfields for flying cars
  4. Verification of noise from flying cars

Assumed flight route 1

The flight route is a draft at the proposal creation stage and may be changed in the future depending on the status of coordination with related parties.
