Taking into account the lessons learned from the Ukraine War and the threat presented by China, Taiwan will expedite the development of drones for military use.

Since Russia began a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February of last year, unmanned aircraft have been essential on both sides. Drones are the future of modern combat, according to the defence minister of Ukraine.

Taiwan has consistently stated that it is closely following the war and absorbing lessons it could apply to fight against a Chinese attack, particularly how Ukraine has resisted a numerically superior force. Taiwan is facing an increasing threat from China to use force to put it under Beijing’s authority.

The institution outlined its plans for the missiles and drones it is working on in a report to lawmakers last year, and the defence ministry has previously declared plans to start producing unidentified “attack drones.”
